WHAT ARE THE NEW PARAMETERS FOR NYC SPECIAL INSPECTIONS?
The New York City Buildings Department requires that Special Inspections be conducted for a variety of construction projects. These inspections are required prior to closing out a project and getting a DOB sign off. Currently, any PE/RA can conduct these inspections (with some limitations). However, a new rule will be passed in the coming months, which will require all inspections be performed by a registered inspection agency. Owners must hire inspection agencies directly – the agency CANNOT be hired by the contractor. Owners should verify with their special inspector that they are registered to perform the inspections they are being hired to do.

BUILDING OWNERS: TWO LOCAL LAW DEADLINES THAT HAVE RECENTLY PASSED!
If you are a building owner, here’s a reminder about two Local Law deadlines, which may affect your facility:
- Local Law 84 - Energy & Water Benchmarking: Due August 1, 2011
(This deadline has been extended to December 31, 2011)
- Local Law 26 - Sprinkler Compliance: Due July 1, 2011
(Now past due, but you still have a chance to get in the report without fines!)
